For those that don’t know… NaNoWriMo (short for National Novel Writing Month) is an annual event where people from around the world spend the entire month of November writing 50,000 words towards the completion of a novel (or some literary piece). That averages out to about 1,667 words per day for the 30 days of the month. It is a great way to push out a rough draft for a novel. I have half-heartedly attempted the event twice. The last time was three years ago when I thought I could use it to help me write my board packet…yeah, that didn’t work. The first time I tried it, was years ago and life happened, pulling me away from the event almost before I could even get fully started.

This year, I have finished the ominous board packet, and have decided to reward myself with participating in NaNoWriMo this November! After spending years on academic research and writing, I finally have the itch to write again for fun. I’m dusting off an old idea for a novel I wanted to write the first time I tried NaNoWriMo, and I’m so excited to dive into the characters and their story.

What if the thousands upon thousands of scrolls that once filled the Great Library of Alexandria weren’t all lost to history? What if certain key scrolls were instead divided up and secretly scattered across the ancient world among a select few families for safe-keeping? This story steps into the life of an American journalist whose world is forever changed as she uncovers a piece of this 2,000 year-old mystery.
